This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 21 wins and 36 losses; Ruben Gracie! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 5 losses; Bjorn Akerfeldt! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Akerfeldt has managed to clinch.
Akerfeldt works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Gracie (0) vs (2) Akerfeldt Akerfeldt slips nicely into half guard. Akerfeldt looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Akerfeldt is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Gracie has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gracie looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Gracie tries to get to full guard but Akerfeldt has control of the leg.

Gracie wants to sweep here but Akerfeldt controlling him for the moment. Gracie is looking for a triangle here but Akerfeldt uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Akerfeldt goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Gracie has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Akerfeldt but great work by Gracie. That's five minutes gone in the round. Akerfeldt looking for a sweep. Not yet Akerfeldt, not yet. Gracie passes Akerfeldt's left leg - he's now in half guard. Gracie is looking to advance position but Akerfeldt won't allow it. Gracie wants to control but Akerfeldt is keeping him busy. Akerfeldt is trying to get back to full guard.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Akerfeldt makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Akerfeldt. Our spies down at at Iron Wolf Private Gym inform us that Akerfeldt has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Gracie content to stall in guard here. Gracie might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Akerfeldt swivels though and keeps the full guard. Gracie preventing the sweep. Gracie sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Akerfeldt's guard. Gracie is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Akerfeldt is not content to let Gracie control the position. Akerfeldt has a hand on Gracie's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Gracie takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! That's seven minutes gone in the round. Akerfeldt regains half guard. Akerfeldt makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Akerfeldt. Akerfeldt looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gracie is one step ahead there. Gracie wants to pass the guard but Akerfeldt is keeping the position. Akerfeldt throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Gracie's corner is telling him to maintain position. Akerfeldt looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Gracie drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Gracie seems to have locked his on tight now - Akerfeldt screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Gracie, as he picks up the win!
