PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Francis McLaughlin (ranked 5685 p4p, 25323 weight class) and Punch Power (ranked 372 p4p, 397 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Francis McLaughlin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Punch Power!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Ryoma Takatsuka and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Power or perhaps it was just good defense by McLaughlin, which made it look bad.

Power moves into the clinch.

McLaughlin turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Power is looking to work his way out of this bad position but McLaughlin is controlling him well.

McLaughlin tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

McLaughlin is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Power is trying to get back to half guard.
Power wants to get back to his feet but McLaughlin drags him back down.

Power takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Power is trying to control McLaughlin's posture but McLaughlin avoids it.
McLaughlin tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Power tries to escape but McLaughlin is in control.
McLaughlin lands a decent elbow from side control.
McLaughlin has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
McLaughlin tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
McLaughlin lands a few punches from side control.
Power can't do much from the bottom here.
Power takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Power takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
McLaughlin lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

McLaughlin wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Power, who protects the arm well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

McLaughlin tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Power is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked McLaughlin off and has taken his back!
Power wants to control but McLaughlin is keeping busy.
Power might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control McLaughlin haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
This has been an exciting period of action!
McLaughlin tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Power looking to control but McLaughlin is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
McLaughlin is looking to improve his position but Power isn't that keen on the idea.
McLaughlin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
McLaughlin regains half guard.

McLaughlin slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
McLaughlin really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
McLaughlin keeping moving, preventing Power from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McLaughlin pulls Power in close to prevent any damage.
Power tries to free his leg and advance position but McLaughlin is retaining full guard.
McLaughlin manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Power manages to get himself to full guard.

McLaughlin scoring with punches to the head and body.
Power really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McLaughlin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

McLaughlin drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. McLaughlin seems to have locked his on tight now - Power screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for McLaughlin, as he picks up the win!
