PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pter Baskov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Rees (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baskov comes to the cage accompanied by Du Hast - Rammstein. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Luis Engracia and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baskov tries for a takedown but Rees sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Baskov shoots in for a takedown but Rees shows good takedown defense.
Rees tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Baskov paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Rees tries to clinch up but Baskov circles away and keeps his distance.
Rees connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Jay Rees seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rees fails to land with a series of punches.
Rees has a takedown stuffed.
Baskov swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Rees counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Rees.
Baskov wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Rees's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Baskov fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rees, pushing him back against the cage.

Rees connects with a vicious head kick that knocks Baskov to the floor! Rees dives in looking for the finish!


Baskov is rocked!


It looks like Pter Baskov has been cut.

Baskov looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Baskov holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Baskov wants to get back to full guard.
Baskov flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Rees is trying to control the action in half guard but Baskov is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Baskov kicks off Rees and gets to his feet.
Baskov is breathing heavily.

Rees gets caught flat footed, as Baskov shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Rees doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Rees had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Baskov is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Rees Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Baskov's back instead.
Rees tries to get the hooks in deep but Baskov pushed the leg off.

Baskov manages to reverse the position and now he's in Rees's guard. Nice work there by Baskov.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rees keeping moving, preventing Baskov from controlling successfully.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Baskov fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pter Baskov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rees will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Rees clinches but Baskov breaks the clinch

and Baskov counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rees throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Baskov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Rees doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Baskov counters with a takedown into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Baskov decides to stand up, so the ref orders Rees to his feet.
Rees wants to clinch

and Baskov counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Rees!
Baskov is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Rees can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Rees is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Baskov tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rees closes the distance and clinches.
Baskov wants to break the clinch but can't.

Baskov jumps into guard, dragging Rees to the mat.
Baskov has Rees pulled in close to control his posture.
Rees wants to control from the top but Baskov keeps moving.

Rees looking to improve position, pressing down on Baskov's thigh with his hand. Baskov seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Rees paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Rees's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Baskov picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Pter Baskov!
