PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Blonde Brunson (ranked 1652 p4p, 3224 weight class) and Volodimir Borrisinov (ranked 103 p4p, 188 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Blonde Brunson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Volodimir Borrisinov!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brunson misses with a takedown attempt - Borrisinov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Borrisinov is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Brunson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Borrisinov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Brunson somewhat.
A low kick from Brunson is predictable there

and Borrisinov counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Well, if Borrisinov is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Borrisinov is continuing to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Borrisinov wants to control from the top but Brunson keeps moving.
Borrisinov not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Brunson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Brunson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Brunson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Brunson throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Brunson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Borrisinov is aware though and is defending well.

Borrisinov is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Brunson has his foot on Borrisinov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Borrisinov works his way back into a safe position though.
Brunson wants to sweep here but Borrisinov controlling him for the moment.

Brunson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Borrisinov trying to control the position from guard on top but Brunson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Borrisinov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brunson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Borrisinov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Brunson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Borrisinov has managed to get both his arms back between Brunson's legs - danger averted.
Brunson wants to control but Borrisinov passes easily into half guard.
Borrisinov prevents Brunson from improving his position.
Borrisinov is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Borrisinov keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Brunson is looking to improve his position.
Still in half guard, Borrisinov seems content to control.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Borrisinov connects with a nice short shot to Brunson's temple.

Brunson tries to roll over but Borrisinov keeps him under control.
Borrisinov not doing much here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Brunson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Brunson keeping moving, preventing Borrisinov from controlling successfully.
Borrisinov has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Combat Wombat Burrow. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Brunson is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Volodimir Borrisinov dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Brunson misses with a takedown

Borrisinov trying to control the action but Brunson is working from the bottom.
Borrisinov working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Brunson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Borrisinov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Borrisinov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brunson keeps working.

Brunson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Borrisinov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Brunson wants to sweep but no luck.

Brunson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Borrisinov defends well.

Borrisinov has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Volodimir Borrisinov has got the better of the ground game so far.
Borrisinov lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Borrisinov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brunson keeps working.
Borrisinov is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Brunson's shoulder. That is not cool.

Borrisinov cracks Brunson with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Borrisinov stays in close to Brunson's body and controls the position.

Brunson has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Borrisinov should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Brunson has tightened it up now! Borrisinov should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
