PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Snake (ranked 6218 p4p, 4405 weight class) and That Man (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Snake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, That Man!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Bruno Lombardi and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Snake is trying hard to land a takedown here. Man sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Man moves into the clinch.
Man working hard to break the clinch.

Snake drags the fight down to the ground.
Man wants to get up but he can't break Snake's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Man works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Snake is trying to maintain the position but Man is very close to passing his half guard.

Snake actively working from the bottom here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Well, if Man is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Snake tries to get to full guard but Man has control of the leg.
Man controlling the action here.
Snake is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Man is looking to take a break and control but Snake is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Man lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Snake circles away quickly and effectively.
Snake misses with a takedown

and Man counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Man.
Snake jumps guard but Man turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Snake. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Snake breaks from the clinch.

Man gets a takedown into half guard.
Snake is breathing heavily.
Man moves into full mount! Snake won't be happy about that!
Man controlling the position easily from mount.

Man is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Snake can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Man throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Snake because Man loaded up on that one.

Snake is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Snake might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Man controlling from the full mount.
Snake is wriggling around trying to escape.
Man throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Man controlling the position easily from mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Let's hope that Man has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Man throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Snake because Man loaded up on that one.
Man misses with a head shot.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Man shoots in and bounces Snake off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Man content to stall in guard here.
Man trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Man looking to pass the guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Man slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Snake is looking to sweep but instead, Man has passed into half guard.

Snake avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Man.
Man missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Snake blocking the ground and pound attempt from Man.
Man is looking to take a break and control but Snake is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Snake is trying to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Man is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Snake is just riding it out for now. Man eventually gives up the hold.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Man keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Man decides to stand and escape the position.

Man fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Snake, pushing him back against the cage.
Snake has Man pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Man manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Snake wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Man jumps guard.
Snake won't allow Man to sweep him here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Man controlling Snake's posture.
Man is wriggling around but Snake manages to pass to half guard.
Man is trying to get back to full guard.
Snake throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Man is concentrating on defense, preventing Snake from advancing position.
That Man has got the better of the ground game so far.
Snake seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Man wants to control but Snake is keeping busy.
Man manages to get to full guard.
Snake looking to sit in guard and control but Man gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Man accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Man throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Snake works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That Man showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Man shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Man tries to pass to full mount but Snake defends it.
Man stalling.
Man thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Snake's head.

Snake is not content to let Man control the position.

Man wants to work for an arm triangle but Snake is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Man closes the distance and clinches.
Man slowing the pace effectively.

Man has hold of one of Snake's legs. Snake is fighting the takedown attempt but Man gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Man postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Snake controls Man momentarily but Man frees himself.
Man pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Snake is keeping the position for now.

Snake looking for a guillotine here but Man defends easily.

Man decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Man shoots in and bounces Snake off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Man has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Snake being controlled here, momentarily.
Man passes into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Snake blocking the ground and pound attempt from Man.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Man thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Man looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Man wants to take a breather but Snake is having none of it.
Man is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Snake wants to get back to full guard.
Man is taking a breather. Snake says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

And that's the end of the fight!
That Man comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Man has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
