PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ashton Ladd (ranked 3140 p4p, 3365 weight class) and Matt Jones (ranked 375 p4p, 393 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ashton Ladd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Matt Jones!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Michael Johnstone and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Ladd scores with a nice strike.
Jones fails to land the takedown.
Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ladd's waist but Ladd gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side.
Ashton Ladd has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Jones.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Ladd shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Jones scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Ladd is refusing to be controlled, as Jones sits in half guard.
Well, if Jones is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Jones is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Ladd looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Jones wants to control but Ladd is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Jones fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Jones goes for a double leg but Ladd avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Ladd continues to drive forward.

Jones gets the takedown into side control.
Jones sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Ladd is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Jones is trying to get an arm triangle but Ladd is defending well.
Ladd is trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Ladd is not content to let Jones control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Jones tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Jones is trying to get an arm triangle but Ladd is defending well.
Jones controls the position.
Ladd stops Jones from passing to mount.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ladd regains half guard.

Jones is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Ladd actively working from the bottom here.
Ladd keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Jones works his way into full mount!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ladd is wriggling around trying to escape.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Jones dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Jones doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Ladd displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jones.

Jones changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ladd looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Ladd is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Jones's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Ladd is staying active underneath Jones, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Ladd gets back to full guard.

Ladd has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jones can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Ladd can't keep his opponent in guard - Jones advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Jones throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Ladd gets back to full guard.
Ladd not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Jones postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Ladd is looking for a triangle but Jones pushes his legs off easily.
Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ladd. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Ladd is retaining full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Ladd has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Jones should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Ladd has tightened it up now! Jones should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
