This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 5 losses; George Smith! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 18 wins and 31 losses; Vartan Esteves! The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Roger Salmon and Josh West.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Smith moves into the clinch. Esteves gets a trip takedown into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Smith (0) vs (2) Esteves Esteves tries to pass the half guard into mount. Smith knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Esteves seems to be looking for submissions.
Smith is refusing to be controlled, as Esteves sits in half guard. Esteves is trying to work for a kimura but Smith is defending well.
Esteves is looking to take a break and control but Smith is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Smith's guard. Esteves wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working. Esteves is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Esteves controlling the action here.

Esteves is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Smith keeps control of the position easily here as Esteves tries to buck him off.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Esteves rolls, trying to escape but Smith keeps control of the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Smith controlling the position well here. Esteves rolled but Smith kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

And that's the end of the fight! Smith takes the fight on points by 25 to 8. In his post fight interview, George Smith started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception. |
