PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Denis Burlaka (ranked 6258 p4p, 6038 weight class) and Caleb McGarry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Caleb McGarry is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Denis Burlaka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Caleb McGarry!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Steven Brown and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burlaka pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces McGarry back to the cage. Burlaka follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
McGarry walks into a straight right hand from Burlaka.
McGarry darts in looking for a takedown but Burlaka gets double underhooks and turns McGarry into the cage.
Burlaka attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Burlaka lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

McGarry feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
McGarry is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Burlaka wants to sweep but no luck.
McGarry not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Burlaka wants to stand and escape but McGarry is having none of it.
My spies in Tappelukerho inform me that McGarry has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Burlaka looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
McGarry stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Burlaka swivels though and keeps the full guard.

McGarry stops Burlaka from standing up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
McGarry is trying hard to land a takedown here. Burlaka sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

enabling Burlaka to counter with a crisp jab.
Denis Burlaka has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Caleb McGarry.

McGarry scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

McGarry wants to work for an arm triangle but Burlaka is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Burlaka is trying to stand up here but McGarry is controlling him well.
Burlaka tries to kick McGarry off in order to stand up. McGarry Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

McGarry looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Burlaka is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, McGarry asserts his dominance and retains side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McGarry trying to control the action but Burlaka is working from the bottom.
Burlaka is holding McGarry down, trying to stall.

McGarry tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Burlaka is pushing McGarry's head away, looking to escape. McGarry manages to hold on to the position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

McGarry working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Burlaka is looking to work his way out of this bad position but McGarry is controlling him well.
Burlaka tries to bench press McGarry off him but McGarry keeps the position.

McGarry is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Burlaka is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

McGarry tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Burlaka is trying to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Burlaka tries to improve position but can't.

McGarry is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Burlaka is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Burlaka is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, McGarry asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Burlaka prevents McGarry from moving into mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Burlaka wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Denis Burlaka will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Burlaka throws a one two combo.
McGarry tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Burlaka swivels and escapes.
Burlaka is looking for a counter combo.
McGarry fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Burlaka avoids it really well and circles away.
Jab by Burlaka.
McGarry dives in for a single leg takedown but Burlaka sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Denis Burlaka has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Caleb McGarry.
Burlaka feints a jab promting McGarry to slip. Burlaka then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. McGarry slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Burlaka getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
McGarry shoots in looking for a takedown but Burlaka manages to keep the fight standing, pushing McGarry's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
McGarry tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Burlaka defends well and McGarry ends up having to push Burlaka into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Burlaka lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as McGarry backs up against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Burlaka throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent McGarry stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Burlaka keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Denis Burlaka is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Burlaka scores with a hook.

McGarry is rocked!
McGarry gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Burlaka gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:09 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Denis Burlaka!
