PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 24760 p4p, 24700 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 26 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 26 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Sapi scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Mibangon controlling the position for now.
Mibangon tries to get to full guard but Sapi has control of the leg.
Still in half guard, Sapi seems content to control.
Sapi's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sapi is thwarting Mibangon's attempts to control the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Mibangon dives in for a single leg takedown but Sapi sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Sapi follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Mibangon is looking for a takedown.
Sapi changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Mibangon fights it off and pushes away nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Sapi gets caught napping as Mibangon dives in and scores a takedown. Sapi manages to retain guard.
Mibangon wants to stand but Sapi is controlling his posture from full guard.
Mibangon slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Sapi has control of Mibangon's left arm, preventing Mibangon from doing any damage.
Sapi looking for a sweep. Not yet Sapi, not yet.
Mibangon wants to control from the top but Sapi keeps moving.
Sapi wants to sweep here but Mibangon controlling him for the moment.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mibangon seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Mibangon closes the distance and clinches up with Sapi, looking for a takedown. Mibangon pushes Sapi against the cage but Sapi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Minatay Mibangon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mibangon shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sapi defends it nicely.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Wala Sapi dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mibangon.
Sapi is looking to land body kicks.
Sapi moves out of range of the body kick from Mibangon.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Mibangon fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sapi sprawls well initially but Mibangon persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Sapi pushes Mibangon off but Mibangon dives into side control.
Mibangon staying calm.
Sapi isn't going anywhere.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sapi is being controlled here.
Mibangon working away.
Sapi might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mibangon haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mibangon seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sapi for as long as he can get away with.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mibangon has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Sapi wants to control but Mibangon postures up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Sapi shoots in and bounces Mibangon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Sapi throws a strike but Mibangon rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Sapi wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Sapi is trying to hold Mibangon in close to prevent damage but Mibangon has managed to pass into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Minatay Mibangon dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Sapi dives in and grabs Mibangon's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mibangon pushes down on Sapi's head and hops out.
And Mibangon counters with a quick kick to the body but Sapi blocks it.
Sapi stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sapi wants it to stay on the feet.
Sapi looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi fails to land the takedown.
Minatay Mibangon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wala Sapi.

Mibangon stuffs the takedown.
It looked like Mibangon was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Sapi.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sapi is defended easily by Mibangon.
Mibangon appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Sapi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mibangon as he jumps to the side.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Sapi scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Mibangon gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Sapi not doing much here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mibangon is controlling Sapi's trapped leg to prevent Sapi from advancing to side control.
Sapi performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Mibangon is looking to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mibangon wants to control the action here but instead Sapi manages to pass to full mount!
Mibangon is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Sapi trying to control but Mibangon is having none of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sapi content just to control the position here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wala Sapi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sapi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
