Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Romulo Ferreira (ranked 3785 p4p, 25378 weight class) and John James (ranked 211 p4p, 288 weight class). Ferreira comes into the arena with Eminem - Go To Sleep blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Romulo Ferreira! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John James! The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Joseph Jones and Anthony Taglia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! James shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Ferreira has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but James is on him like a limpet, forcing Ferreira back against the cage. James breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and James counters with a takedown into side control. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ferreira tries to buck James off but James is having none of it. Ferreira sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Ferreira is looking to control James's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ferreira avoid being mounted? James trying to control from Ferreira's half guard. Ferreira has other ideas though and has regained full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. James got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ferreira has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, James has managed to get both his arms back between Ferreira's legs - danger averted. Ferreira keeping moving, preventing James from controlling successfully. James is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ferreira is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ferreira has escaped and now he's on top!
Ferreira might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Ferreira won't allow James to sweep him here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. James controls Ferreira momentarily but Ferreira frees himself. James wants to improve his position but instead Ferreira has moved into half guard.
James is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Ferreira seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. James wants to control but Ferreira is keeping busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. James has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Ferreira escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Ferreira! James is not content to let Ferreira control the position. Ferreira looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. James takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
James tries to bench press Ferreira off him but Ferreira keeps the position. James struggling a bit here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Ferreira controlling the position from side mount. James pushes Ferreira away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Ferreira gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Ferreira is looking to take a break and control but James is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Ferreira misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. James shoots in looking for a takedown but Ferreira manages to keep the fight standing, pushing James's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Ferreira swings for the body but James moves out of range.

and Ferreira counters with a one-two to the body. James misses with a body kick. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Romulo Ferreira dominated that round. That's time! Ferreira's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ferreira sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. James gets cracked there but stands up to it.
It looks like John James has been cut. James takes a shot to the body in his stride.

and Ferreira holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Ferreira doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Ferreira is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. James is trying to pull guard but Ferreira turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Ferreira is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that James can do to turn this around? James will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Ferreira up against the cage. James fails to pull guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. James has Ferreira pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ferreira manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Romulo Ferreira has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John James.
That's one minute gone in the round. James has Ferreira pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. James pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Ferreira tumbling to the mat - James dives into Ferreira's guard. Ferreira wants to get back to his feet but James passes into half guard.
Ferreira has one foot on James's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. A lazy left from Ferreira finds it's target. Ferreira throws a right hand that James ducks under and follows up with a left that James also avoids with ease. James is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. Ferreira lands a slapping body shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! James shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ferreira as he avoids it easily. James has a takedown stuffed. Ferreira seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. James shoots in looking for a takedown. Ferreira tries to sprawl out of it but James keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ferreira manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. James throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A shot to the liver by Ferreira. Beautiful body shot. James with a lazy takedown attempt enabling Ferreira to counter with a crisp jab. James is breathing heavily. James shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Ferreira kicks James off and gets to his feet. Romulo Ferreira is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Ferreira lands with a shot to the body. Ferreira stuns James with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Ferreira lands with a cross. Ferreira is looking to wear down James with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Ferreira connects with a looping right hand.
James is rocked! James misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. James is still on wobbly legs! Can Ferreira finish him?
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ferreira lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. James seems to have recovered his senses. Ferreira stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ferreira wants it to stay on the feet. James tries to clinch but Ferreira moves out of range. Nice shot lands for Ferreira. Ferreira drops James with a beautiful combination! James stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Ferreira is looking for the KO! BOOM! Ferreira lands a beautiful left hook that drops James. James tries to recover but Ferreira is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and James lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!
