Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hugo Marques!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cain Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Mauricio Rocha and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velasquez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Velasquez lands in his opponent's guard.
Velasquez lands a couple of elbows.
Marques trying to keep a closed guard but Velasquez is proving a slippery customer.
Velasquez in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Velasquez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Velasquez wants to control from the top but Marques keeps moving.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Velasquez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Velasquez is looking to work some ground and pound but Marques has wrist control.
Velasquez throwing strikes from guard but Marques blocks nicely.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Marques tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Marques is looking to clinch but Velasquez is avoiding it.
Marques stuffs the takedown.
A combination from Marques does no damage.
Velasquez ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Velasquez shoots in and drives through. Marques sprawls well.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Marques misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Velasquez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Hugo Marques has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cain Velasquez.
Horrible takedown by Velasquez or perhaps it was just good defense by Marques which made him look bad.
Velasquez looks gassed!
Velasquez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Marques circles away.
Marques lands a body shot.
Marques tries for a takedown but Velasquez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Velasquez tries to move into range but Marques moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Velasquez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Marques cracks Velasquez with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Velasquez falls to his knees and Marques doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hugo Marques!
