PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ciryl Gane (ranked 3103 p4p, 4185 weight class) and Donnie Baker (ranked 348 p4p, 435 weight class). Gane comes to the cage accompanied by Zoo - Kaaris. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Donnie Baker !
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Aafke Stam and Paulsen Ambrosius.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baker rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Gane counters with a right hand to the body.
Gane tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Gane moves into the clinch.

Gane pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A head kick from Gane lands but Baker takes it in his stride.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Baker throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gane's waist but Gane gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Baker off to one side.
Baker fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Gane on the side of the head.
Baker misses with a hook
and Gane counters with a left and a right that stings Baker .

Baker moves into the clinch.
Gane landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gane pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Gane lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Gane moves into the clinch.
Gane scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Baker jumps guard but Gane turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Gane gets control of Baker 's arms and successfully pulls guard. Gane will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Gane scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Gane definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Gane lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Gane will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Baker up against the cage.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Gane takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Baker looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Baker is pressed up against the cage. Gane has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Baker down to the mat. Baker avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Baker is trying hard to land a takedown here. Gane sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Ciryl Gane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gane tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Baker manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Gane dives in and scores a takedown into Baker 's guard.

Gane is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Baker looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Baker looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Gane passes Baker 's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Gane prevents Baker from improving his position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gane wants to take a breather but Baker is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Baker wants to control the action here but instead Gane manages to pass to full mount!

Baker is desperately trying to improve his position but Gane has a good base and remains in mount.

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Gane. Baker shrugs it off though.

Gane ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Gane no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Baker lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gane is trying to control the position but Baker postures up.
Baker chips away with some ground and pound.
Baker scoring with punches to the head and body.

Baker content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Baker throws a big elbow that misses.
Gane has momentary wrist control but Baker slips an elbow through the middle.
Gane is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Baker postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gane has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Baker is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Gane lands a good knee to the midsection. Baker won't want to take too many of those.

Gane struggles to land a body shot inside as Baker controls his hands.
Baker can't get the takedown.
Gane tries to stall but Baker uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Gane connects with a nasty looking knee right to Baker 's face.
Gane is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Baker can do to turn this around?

Gane gets control of Baker 's arms and successfully pulls guard. Gane will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Baker is in close to Gane's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Baker lands a couple of digs.
Baker with a nice head shot there.

Baker scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Baker distracts Gane with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Baker content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Gane is rocked!
Baker loads up on a big left hand. Gane felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Baker looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Gane can't hide his disappointment, as Baker celebrates the victory.
