PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mathias Jansen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and MAX SWAGGER (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). SWAGGER has chosen Crawl/ Kings of Leon as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. MAX SWAGGER told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
SWAGGER will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Jansen drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Jansen drops back, looking for a kneebar! SWAGGER looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. SWAGGER looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from SWAGGER!
Jansen parries the strikes from SWAGGER easily there. SWAGGER is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Jansen to escape.
Jansen tries to bench press SWAGGER off him but SWAGGER keeps the position.
SWAGGER moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jansen gets back to half guard.
Jansen is looking for a sweep. SWAGGER is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

SWAGGER wants to stand but Jansen has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Jansen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
SWAGGER really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jansen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
SWAGGER perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Jansen is not content to let SWAGGER control the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
SWAGGER throws a head kick that misses.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
SWAGGER throws a right and a left that both miss.

Jansen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. SWAGGER looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Jansen is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but SWAGGER is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
SWAGGER is trying to get back to half guard.

Jansen wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by SWAGGER, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

SWAGGER tries to buck Jansen off but Jansen is having none of it.

Jansen has hold of SWAGGER's arm. He's looking for a kimura. SWAGGER seems comfortable defending it but Jansen has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! SWAGGER is real pain and he's forced to tap out! SWAGGER is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Jansen couldn't care less - he's delighted!
