PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Corn Corn (ranked 4474 p4p, 4044 weight class) and Hyu Head (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Head's choice of entrance music: Eye of the tiger. Hyu Head has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Corn Corn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Hyu Head!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Peter Branson and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Head throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Corn was covering up waiting for the punch and Head finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Corn is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Head presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Head pulls Corn into guard.
Head wants to stand and escape but Corn is having none of it.
Corn being controlled here momentarily.
Corn controls from within his opponent's guard.
Head bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Corn's guard.


That's one minute gone in the round.
Head's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Head drops back looking for a leg! Corn is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Corn manages to kick Head off! Head jumps back into Corn's guard.

Head drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Head jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Corn looking to control but Head passes into half guard.
Corn is looking to control Head's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Corn avoid being mounted?
Head is trying to control the action in half guard but Corn is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Head controlling the action here.
Corn works his way to full guard. Good work.
Corn looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Head engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Head looking to pass the guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Head tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Corn defends well and Head ends up having to push Corn into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Head fails with a takedown attempt.

Corn shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Corn showed some decent athleticism there.

Head manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Corn keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Head misses with a body punch.
Corn is looking to take this one to the mat.
Head will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Corn up against the cage.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Head breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Head shoots in looking for a takedown. Corn tries to sprawl out of it but Head keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Corn manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
An attempted straight right counter from Corn misses the target.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Hyu Head dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Corn blocks a head kick by Head.
Head looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Corn shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Corn showed some decent athleticism there.
Corn not doing much here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Corn wants to lay and pray for a moment but Head keeps working.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Corn trying to control the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Corn has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Head works to full guard.

Corn won't allow Head to sweep him here.
Head wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Head utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Head can't keep his opponent in guard - Corn advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Corn seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Head does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Corn wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Head uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Head is on top in guard.


Head is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Head trying to control but Corn is working from the bottom.
Corn is adopting a defensive guard.
Head stands up over Corn, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Head keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Head wants to take a breather but Corn is having none of it.
Head with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Corn is defending against the submission attempts here by Head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Head seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Corn does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Hyu Head showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Corn misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Head circles away from the clinch attempt.
Head throws a counter combo.
Corn tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Head defends well and Corn ends up having to push Head into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Corn is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Head to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Corn Corn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Corn struggles to land a body shot inside as Head controls his hands.

Head pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Head moves in looking to clinch but Corn pushes him off.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Head scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Corn knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Head on the ground.
Head wants to lay and pray for a moment but Corn keeps working.

Head tries to score with some ground and pound. Corn controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Head wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Corn, who protects the arm well.
Head is looking to take a break and control but Corn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Head in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Corn is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Hyu Head!
Hyu Head decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
