Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andrew Callaghan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Colby Covington! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Callaghan moves into the clinch successfully.
Callaghan gets underhooks to prevent Covington's takedown attempt.
Callaghan gets a trip takedown into half guard. Covington is trying to stand back up but Callaghan is controlling him
Callaghan controlling the action here. Covington trying to hold on to Callaghan's head to control him but Callaghan postures up.
Covington is looking for a sweep. Callaghan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Callaghan stands up and beckons Covington to join him on the feet. Callaghan moves in looking to clinch but Covington pushes him off. Covington shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Callaghan counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Callaghan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Covington has closed the distance and engaged Callaghan in a clinch.
Covington misses with an elbow strike.
Callaghan wants a takedown.
Callaghan has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Covington is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Callaghan has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Covington uses from the top position. Covington wants to get up but he can't break Callaghan's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Covington stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Callaghan swivels though and keeps the full guard. Callaghan controls Covington momentarily but Covington frees himself.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Covington content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Callaghan has locked up a guillotine! Callaghan's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Covington is holding on here and Callaghan must be using up a lot of energy. Covington has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Callaghan gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
