Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Arkinson (ranked 23460 p4p, 23381 weight class) and Martins Verdins (ranked 268 p4p, 258 weight class). Arkinson comes to the cage accompanied by Breaking Benjamin - So cold. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 7 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Arkinson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 7 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Martins Verdins! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Verdins shoots in for a takedown but Arkinson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Verdins fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Arkinson manages to avoid it. Arkinson misses with a double jab
and Verdins holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Arkinson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Arkinson throws a right and a left that Verdins avoids nicely. A nice side step and Verdins releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Verdins is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Arkinson. Verdins moves forwards but Arkinson connects with a nice, crisp jab. Verdins should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Verdins fails with a takedown attempt. Decent striking displayed by Arkinson there. Verdins dives in for a single leg takedown but Arkinson sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Mark Arkinson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Martins Verdins. Verdins shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Arkinson is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. We've been told by Arkinson's head coaches at Roosters Coop that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. A looping hook to the body misses from Verdins. Arkinson does a little dance to reset his feet. Arkinson went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Arkinson misses with the combination.
That's one minute gone in the round. Arkinson cracks Verdins with a right hand to the side of the head. Arkinson looks to score with a jab to the body but Verdins is just out of range. Arkinson stuffs the takedown attempt from Verdins. Verdins gets slowly back to his feet. Arkinson shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Verdins eats them both and turns towards Arkinson to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Arkinson lands with a shot to the body. Nice uppercut lands for Arkinson. That snapped Verdins's head back.
Arkinson is breathing heavily. Verdins drops his hands momentarily and Arkinson takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Arkinson is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Verdins tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Arkinson lands with a right hand. Nice defenses there by Verdins. Arkinson drops Verdins with a left right combo! Arkinson follows him down to the ground into side control.
Verdins is rocked! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Verdins avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Arkinson. Verdins is still in real trouble! Can Arkinson finish him? Verdins is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Arkinson off and has taken his back! Verdins seems to have recovered his senses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Verdins sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Arkinson taps out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Martins Verdins!
