PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kugus Amiga (ranked 24431 p4p, 24534 weight class) and Richard John Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 25 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kugus Amiga! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 17 - 30 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard John Salvacion! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Salvacion shoots and misses and Amiga counters with a nice kick to the body. Amiga misses with a takedown attempt and Salvacion counters with a slapping leg kick. Amiga shoots in for a takedown but Salvacion shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Amiga has a takedown stuffed. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kugus Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Salvacion closes this distance looking for a takedown but Amiga circles away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Salvacion shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Amiga pushes Salvacion off and gets back to his feet. Salvacion looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Amiga fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Salvacion avoids it really well and circles away. Salvacion is trying to counter with his kicks. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Salvacion misses with the body kick and Amiga counters with a solid body kick. Nice sprawl there from Amiga as Salvacion shoots in.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Salvacion looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Salvacion not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Amiga pulls Salvacion in close to his closed guard and prevents Salvacion from doing any damage or advancing position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Kugus Amiga will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Salvacion fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Amiga throws a quick counter kick to the body but Salvacion avoids it. Salvacion closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Amiga quickly recovers to half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Salvacion is taking a breather. Amiga says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
That's one minute gone in the round. Let's hope that Salvacion has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Amiga is doing well to control the position and prevent Salvacion from advancing to side control. Salvacion not doing much here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Amiga avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Salvacion.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Salvacion is trying hard to land a takedown here. Amiga sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Amiga quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect. Salvacion shoots in for a takedown but Amiga shows good takedown defense. It looked like Amiga was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Salvacion. Kugus Amiga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Richard John Salvacion.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Amiga shoots for a takedown but Salvacion saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Amiga shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Salvacion's guard. Salvacion is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Amiga is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Salvacion has Amiga pulled in close to control his posture. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Amiga showing good wrestling skills to control the position. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Kugus Amiga will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!
Salvacion fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Amiga sprawls well initially but Salvacion persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Amiga is holding on to half guard well. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Salvacion prevents Amiga from improving his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Amiga is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Salvacion is figuring out what he wants to do next.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Salvacion.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Amiga displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Salvacion. It appears Amiga was looking to counter with a kick there. Excellent takedown into side control there by Amiga.
That's three minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Salvacion's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Amiga sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Salvacion is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Salvacion wants to get back to his feet. Amiga working away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Amiga in the domination position with Salvacion hanging on. Amiga controlling from side mount. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Salvacion is trying to get back to half guard.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Richard John Salvacion has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Kugus Amiga is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Salvacion stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Salvacion wants it to stay on the feet. Salvacion doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kugus Amiga. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Amiga, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
