The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pops lands a nice hook to Smichovic's body. Smichovic takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Pops connects with a good right hand that stumbles Smichovic. Smichovic circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Pops tries to sprawl but Smichovic drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Smichovic's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pops wants to improve his position but Smichovic is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smichovic is taking a breather. Pops says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Pops is looking for a sweep. Smichovic is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Pops scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Smichovic doesn't seem bothered though.
A punch lands to the side of Smichovic 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smichovic moves forwards but Pops connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Pops fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Smichovic drops his hands momentarily and Pops takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Smichovic is rocked!
Pops finds Smichovic's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Smichovic flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Pops lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Smichovic will be OK.

A less than humble Uncle Pops misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
