PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 24698 p4p, 24638 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 27 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 26 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Horrible takedown attempt by Sapi or perhaps it was just good defense by Mibangon, which made it look bad.
Mibangon delivers a nice body kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mibangon throws a quick counter kick to the body but Sapi avoids it.
Mibangon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sapi tries to avoid it but Mibangon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sapi to the ground. Sapi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sapi follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sapi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mibangon's waist but Mibangon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sapi off to one side.

Mibangon dives in and scores a takedown into Sapi's guard.
Sapi has control of Mibangon's left arm, preventing Mibangon from doing any damage.
Mibangon scoring with punches to the head and body.
Mibangon is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Sapi pulls Mibangon in close to prevent any damage.

Mibangon seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Sapi closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mibangon did well to prevent Sapi getting side control.
Sapi is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Sapi thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Mibangon is looking to get back to full guard here but Sapi has managed to pass to side control instead.
Sapi just content to control the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Wala Sapi will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Mibangon shoots in for a takedown but Sapi shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Sapi throws a fast counter high kick but Mibangon manages to duck under it in time.
Mibangon misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Mibangon shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sapi defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Minatay Mibangon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sapi looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Mibangon!

Mibangon is trying to control Sapi's posture but Sapi avoids it.

A lull in the action here as Sapi stalls from top position.
Sapi wants to control but Mibangon is keeping him busy.

Mibangon is looking to reverse the position.
You can see the frustration on Mibangon's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Sapi shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sapi was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Wala Sapi has got the better of the ground game so far.
You can see the frustration on Mibangon's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Wala Sapi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Sapi is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mibangon sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
It appears Mibangon was looking to counter with a kick there.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mibangon.

Sapi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mibangon seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sapi controls Mibangon momentarily but Mibangon frees himself.
Mibangon not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Sapi dives in and scores a takedown into Mibangon's guard.
Mibangon looking for a sweep. Not yet Mibangon, not yet.
Mibangon managing to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sapi wants to stand but Mibangon is controlling his posture from full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mibangon is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Minatay Mibangon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wala Sapi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Sapi controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Minatay Mibangon showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Sapi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
