The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Souza shoots in and drives through. Nutz sprawls well. Nutz tries to counter by clinching up but Souza breaks away and moves out of range. Souza tries to clinch up but Nutz circles away and keeps his distance. Souza is looking to clinch but Nutz is avoiding it.
The fight moves into the clinch position. Nutz tries for a takedown but Souza manages to get underhooks.
Nutz pulls Souza into guard.
Nutz tries to land a sweep but no joy. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nutz is trying to control the position but Souza postures up. Souza wants to pass the guard but Nutz is keeping the position. Souza wants to control from the top but Nutz keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Souza tries to free his leg and advance position but Nutz is retaining full guard. Nutz being controlled here, momentarily. Nutz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Souza defends it easily. Souza pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Nutz is keeping the position for now. Souza looking to sit in guard and control but Nutz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Nutz (2) vs (0) Souza Souza wants to sweep but no luck. Nutz controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Souza can't keep his opponent in guard - Nutz advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Nutz maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Souza could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Nutz has cracked it and Souza is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Nutz!
