PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Paul Davison (ranked 1912 p4p, 1850 weight class) and Dean Stomp (ranked 167 p4p, 161 weight class). Davison comes to the cage accompanied by Where the Streets Have No Name - U2. The crowd seem to be enjoying Stomp's choice of entrance music: 80/20SKYBEEF. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Paul Davison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dean Stomp!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Daniel Franklin and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stomp takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Stomp is trying hard to land a takedown here. Davison sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Stomp gets a takedown into half guard.

Davison kicks off Stomp and gets to his feet.
Stomp misses with a takedown attempt
and Davison counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Stomp needs to keep his hands up - Davison had a free shot at his head there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jab, jab by Davison - just one landing.
Davison throws a body shot but no joy.
Stomp takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Stomp is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Davison's half guard.

Stomp swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Davison is now in Stomp's guard. A big mistake from Stomp there, giving up the dominant position!

My spies in PhoQus Island Training inform me that Stomp has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Stomp throws an elbow that misses. Davison uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Stomp's guard. Nice move by Davison!

Stomp has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Davison can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Stomp shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Stomp showed some decent athleticism there.
Stomp wants to pass the guard but Davison is defending well.
Davison is looking for a sweep. Stomp is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Davison makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Stomp.
Davison looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Stomp changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Davison looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Stomp thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Stomp works to advance to full mount. Davison defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Stomp is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Davison has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Davison!

Stomp looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Stomp looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Stomp is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Davison is aware though and is defending well.

Stomp isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Davison stacks Stomp on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Davison!

Davison with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Stomp wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Davison.

Davison will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Davison throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Stomp because Davison loaded up on that one.
Stomp looks out of his depth in this position - he's holding on tight.
Davison avoids the attempt from Stomp to control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Davison trying to control but Stomp is having none of it.
Stomp wants to hold on but Davison pushes him away.

Stomp tries to lock up and control but Davison gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Davison goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Stomp is on top in guard.

I think Stomp has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Our winner, Dean Stomp, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
The defeated Paul Davison had this to say: 'This loss is unacceptable, I blame everyone but myself for this outcome. The refs, the judges, my coaches, every stinkin' person on this island.'.
