Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jared Brunson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Yuri Nurmagochev!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nurmagochev throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
enabling Brunson to counter with a crisp jab.
We've been told by Brunson's head coaches at Cozad MMA Las Vegas that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Nurmagochev shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Brunson napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Brunson tries to improve position but can't.

Nurmagochev decides to stand up, so the ref orders Brunson to his feet.
Nurmagochev walks into a stiff left hand from Brunson.

It looks like Yuri Nurmagochev has been cut.
Nurmagochev uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Brunson.
Nurmagochev throws a right hand that Brunson ducks under and follows up with a left that Brunson also avoids with ease.
An attempted straight right counter from Brunson misses the target.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Nurmagochev.

Brunson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Nurmagochev manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Nurmagochev pulls Brunson in close to prevent any damage.
Brunson throws a strike but Nurmagochev rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Nurmagochev got a little sloppy there for a moment and Brunson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nurmagochev has managed to get both his arms back between Brunson's legs - danger averted.
Nurmagochev slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Brunson trying to keep a closed guard but Nurmagochev is proving a slippery customer.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Brunson wants to sweep but no luck.

Brunson is looking for a triangle but Nurmagochev pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Brunson can't keep his opponent in guard - Nurmagochev advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Let's hope that Nurmagochev has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
It looks like Nurmagochev might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Brunson is looking to improve his position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Brunson throws a hook to the side of Nurmagochev's head but Nurmagochev sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Brunson works over Nurmagochev's head and body with a nice combination.
Brunson throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Nurmagochev on the side of the head.
Nurmagochev shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Brunson as he avoids it easily.

Brunson throws a body punch but Nurmagochev moves out of range.
Nurmagochev lands a glancing blow to the side of Brunson's head.
Nurmagochev fails with a takedown attempt.
Jared Brunson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yuri Nurmagochev.
Brunson stalks Nurmagochev and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Nurmagochev's face. Nurmagochev staggers backwards, shaken.
Brunson stuffs the takedown attempt from Nurmagochev. Nurmagochev gets slowly back to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Brunson thuds a left hand into Nurmagochev's body.
Brunson misses with an attempted mid kick.
Nurmagochev darts in looking for a takedown but Brunson gets double underhooks and turns Nurmagochev into the cage.
Nurmagochev takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Brunson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Nurmagochev can do to turn this around?
Horrible takedown attempt by Nurmagochev or perhaps it was just good defense by Brunson, which made it look bad.

Brunson throws a left and a right that both miss

and Nurmagochev counters with a shoot takedown. Brunson fights it but they end up in guard.
Brunson is wriggling around but Nurmagochev manages to pass to half guard.
Nurmagochev is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brunson is looking to escape.

Brunson wants to improve his position but Nurmagochev is controlling well.
Brunson is trying to stand up here but Nurmagochev is controlling him well.
Nurmagochev slips a nice elbow through Brunson's hands, connecting with Brunson's forehead.

Nurmagochev with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
It looks like Nurmagochev is going to stand back up.
Nurmagochev is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Nurmagochev.
Brunson trying to get back to full guard but Nurmagochev takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Nurmagochev wants to stand but Brunson is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Brunson is trying to escape the mount.
Nurmagochev lands a big shot there that rocks Brunson but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Brunson is bucking up trying to escape but Nurmagochev cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Brunson is trying desperately to improve position.
Nurmagochev sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Brunson is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Nurmagochev tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Nurmagochev fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Yuri Nurmagochev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Nurmagochev closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Nurmagochev lands in his opponent's guard.
Brunson is trying to control the position but Nurmagochev postures up.
Nurmagochev prevents Brunson from getting back to his feet.
Brunson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Well, if Nurmagochev is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The adventures of Nurmagochev the control monster continue. Boring.

Brunson has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Nurmagochev is on him like a limpet, forcing Brunson back against the cage.

Nurmagochev's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Nurmagochev throws a right and a left that Brunson avoids nicely.

Nurmagochev drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Brunson is looking to get back to his feet here but Nurmagochev is keeping cool and he's managed to take Brunson's back.

Nurmagochev has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Brunson! Can he survive? No! He's out! Nurmagochev gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Yuri Nurmagochev!
