Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Finkle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Naquan Phillips!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Paul Tew and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phillips fails to land the takedown.
Finkle is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Phillips.
Phillips fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Finkle fails with an attempt to clinch.
Finkle tries to clinch up.
Phillips tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Finkle is defended easily by Phillips.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Phillips.
Finkle swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Joe Finkle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Naquan Phillips.
Finkle fails to land the takedown.
Phillips with a poor takedown
and Finkle counters with a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Phillips misses with a takedown
and Finkle makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Finkle pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Phillips back to the cage. Finkle follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Phillips shoots in looking for a takedown. Finkle tries to sprawl out of it but Phillips keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Finkle manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Phillips shoots for a double leg takedown but Finkle sprawls well. He's pushed Phillips's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Phillips looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Finkle is fending him off so far but Phillips persists. Nope, Finkle circles away and we're back to standing.
Phillips changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Finkle tries to avoid it but Phillips manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Finkle to the ground. Finkle escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Finkle went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Phillips looks winded!
Finkle lands with a kick to the temple. Phillips shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Finkle moves into range and clinches up with Phillips.
Finkle lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Finkle tries to pull guard but Phillips won't allow it.
Finkle creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Finkle dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Phillips is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Finkle gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Finkle trying to land knees to the body.
Finkle working hard to break the clinch.
Finkle looking to stall.
Phillips tries for a takedown but Finkle manages to get underhooks.
Phillips has Finkle pressed against the cage, preventing Finkle from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Finkle is trying to push Phillips away but Phillips has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Finkle successfully pulls guard.
Finkle controls Phillips momentarily but Phillips frees himself.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Phillips looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Finkle keeping moving, preventing Phillips from controlling successfully.
Finkle really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Phillips sitting in guard here, content to control.
Phillips must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Phillips looking to sit in guard and control but Finkle gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Phillips wants to reverse the position here. Finkle has hold of a leg though and he's dropped back looking for a kneebar! The fighters roll across the mat but Phillips is forced to tap! Phillips looks devastated but at least his leg points in the right direction.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Joe Finkle!
