PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ervic Thaler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Lilke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ervic Thaler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jay Lilke!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thaler throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lilke.
Lilke slips under a jab.
Thaler misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Thaler misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Thaler misses with a hook.
Thaler changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lilke tries to avoid it but Thaler manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lilke to the ground. Lilke escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Thaler tries to clinch up.
Thaler looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Thaler is looking to clinch but Lilke is avoiding it.

Thaler gets the takedown into side control.
Lilke regains half guard.
Thaler wants to take a breather but Lilke is having none of it.
Thaler landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Lilke is trying to maintain the position but Thaler is very close to passing his half guard.
Lilke gets full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lilke looking to hit a scissor sweep but Thaler is one step ahead there.
Thaler trying to control but Lilke is working from the bottom.

Lilke keeping moving, preventing Thaler from controlling successfully.

Thaler drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Lilke manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Thaler has Lilke in his guard.
Thaler doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Thaler keeping moving, preventing Lilke from controlling successfully.
Lilke looking to pass the guard.
Thaler is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Thaler isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Lilke stacks Thaler on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Lilke!
Thaler is breathing heavily.

Thaler tries to improve position but can't.
You can see the frustration on Thaler's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lilke connects with a body shot.
Lilke uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Thaler.

Lilke decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Thaler looks like he's trying to stand up.
Lilke trying to mount his opponent but Thaler defends it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Thaler is looking for a sweep. Lilke is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Still in half guard, Lilke seems content to control.

Thaler looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Lilke tries to pass to full mount but Thaler defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Lilke dominated that round.
That's time! Thaler's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Lilke lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Thaler fails with the takedown

and Lilke counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Thaler is looking for a triangle but Lilke pushes his legs off easily.
Thaler trying to keep a closed guard but Lilke is proving a slippery customer.

Thaler working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Lilke has passed into half guard!

Lilke is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lilke can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Thaler is looking to escape.
Thaler is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Lilke manages to capitalize on a mistake by Thaler to take his back!
Thaler wants to escape the position.
Thaler just trying to survive but Lilke is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Lilke trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Thaler doesn't escape.
Thaler trying to get back to his feet but Lilke is in full control for now.
Lilke avoiding Thaler 's attempts to control his hands.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Lilke's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Thaler wants to control his opponent's hands but Lilke gets his hands free.

Lilke is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Thaler with him. Thaler is trying to defend but Lilke has an arm under the chin now! Thaler grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jay Lilke!
