This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 29 wins and 14 losses; Abubakar Camara! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 38 wins and 17 losses; Shaka Zulu! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Leandro Rodrigues and Emerson Jorge.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Zulu clinches up against the cage. Zulu wants to take the fight to the mat but Camara manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Camara works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Camara (2) vs (0) Zulu Camara controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Zulu wants to sweep but no luck. Camara controls the pace of the fight for a moment. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Camara looking to pass the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zulu wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Zulu can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Camara controls the pace. Zulu keeping moving, preventing Camara from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Camara looking to sit in guard and control but Zulu gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Camara (2) vs (2) Zulu Camara wants to sweep here but Zulu controlling him for the moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Zulu sitting in guard, not really doing much.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Camara working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Zulu has passed into half guard!
That's five minutes gone in the round. Zulu is figuring out what he wants to do next. Camara tries to roll over but Zulu keeps him under control.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Camara trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Score +3 for passing guard: Camara (2) vs (5) Zulu Camara wants to hold on but Zulu pushes him away. Zulu looking to control but Camara is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Camara is desperately trying to improve his position but Zulu has a good base and remains in mount. Zulu takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Camara tries to improve his position but instead Zulu has taken his back! Score +3 for taking back: Camara (2) vs (8) Zulu Zulu just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

That's eight minutes gone in the round. Zulu slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. It looks like Zulu might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Camara is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Zulu wants to control but Camara is keeping busy. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Camara trying to control the hands but Zulu breaks the grip.
And that's the end of the fight! Zulu wins on points by 8 to 2. During a confident post fight interview, Shaka Zulu thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him. |
