And in the blue corner, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 13 losses; Tan Zan! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Luis Engracia.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Hussein closes the distance and pushes Zan back into the ropes. Hussein tries for a takedown but Zan manages to get underhooks.
Hussein is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the ropes enables Zan to keep the fight standing. Zan tries to score a body lock takedown but Hussein shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Hussein pulls Zan into guard.

Zan drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hussein manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Zan has Hussein in his guard. Hussein stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Zan swivels though and keeps the full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Zan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hussein doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hussein manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Hussein drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hussein jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Zan keeping moving, preventing Hussein from controlling successfully.

Zan looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Hussein is looking for a kimura but Zan is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hussein to get the leverage. Hussein looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Hussein wants to work for an arm triangle but Zan is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Hussein will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Zan looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Hussein is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Zan wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Hussein is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Zan is just riding it out for now. Zan stops Hussein from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better. Zan has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. Hussein is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Zan to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Zan shrugs it off. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Zan is wriggling around trying to escape.
Zan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hussein. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Zan regains half guard. Zan has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Hussein escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Hussein! Hussein has control of Zan's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Zan regains control of the situation pretty easily.

That's five minutes gone in the round. Zan bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Hussein (10) vs (2) Zan Zan is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hussein is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hussein has escaped and now he's on top! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Hussein (12) vs (2) Zan Hussein trying to control but Zan is working from the bottom. Hussein passes into half guard. Hussein wants to pass the guard but Zan is defending well. Hussein uses his free foot to push down on Zan's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Zan. Score +3 for passing guard: Hussein (15) vs (2) Zan Hussein fails to advance to Zan's back. Zan is in all sorts of trouble here.

Hussein gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
