PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 24644 p4p, 24585 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wala Sapi has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 29 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 26 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Mibangon shoots and misses
and Sapi counters with a nice kick to the body.
Mibangon throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sapi steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

Sapi closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mibangon's guard.
Mibangon wants to improve his position but instead Sapi has moved into half guard.
Mibangon holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sapi throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Sapi perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Sapi's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Mibangon wants to control but Sapi is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Sapi stuffs the takedown attempt from Mibangon. Mibangon gets slowly back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sapi fails with a takedown attempt.
Mibangon thinks about countering with a body kick.

Mibangon gets caught flat footed, as Sapi shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Mibangon is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Sapi presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sapi has hold of one of Mibangon's legs. Mibangon is fighting the takedown attempt but Sapi gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Mibangon bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sapi's guard.

Sapi is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Mibangon showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Mibangon trying to control the position from guard on top but Sapi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Sapi is pulling down on Mibangon's head to control his posture.
Mibangon controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Sapi keeping moving, preventing Mibangon from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Wala Sapi will probably get the nod.
That's time! Mibangon's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Sapi wants to control but Mibangon postures up.
Sapi is not content to let Mibangon control the position.
Mibangon moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Sapi holds on to Mibangon's head and controls the position momentarily.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mibangon throws the kick towards the body but Sapi avoids it.
Sapi counters with a body kick.

Sapi drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mibangon is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Sapi controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mibangon is adopting a defensive guard.
Mibangon is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sapi content to stall in guard here.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Mibangon dives in and grabs Sapi's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sapi pushes down on Mibangon's head and hops out.
And Sapi responds with a good body kick, but Mibangon manages to step out the way in time.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sapi tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mibangon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sapi somewhat.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Minatay Mibangon dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Sapi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mibangon's guard.
Mibangon avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Mibangon is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Sapi is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Sapi is continuing to stall.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Mibangon is controlling Sapi's posture.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mibangon preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Mibangon fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sapi avoids it really well and circles away.
Sapi flicks out a counter leg kick but Mibangon steps away.

Sapi looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sapi seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Mibangon is positioning himself well to prevent Sapi advancing to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sapi with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Mibangon keeping hold of Sapi's head, controlling as best he can.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sapi stalling.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wala Sapi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sapi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
