Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joe Swick! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sam Puhakka! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Puhakka goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Puhakka moves into range and clinches up with Swick. Swick has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Puhakka uses from the top position. Swick keeping moving, preventing Puhakka from controlling successfully. Puhakka looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Swick seems keen to control Puhakka's posture. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Swick controls Puhakka momentarily but Puhakka frees himself. Puhakka landing with the ground and pound. Swick knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Puhakka on the ground. Puhakka trying to control but Swick is working from the bottom. Puhakka in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Puhakka seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Puhakka trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Swick looking to control.
Swick keeping full guard, as Puhakka tries to pass. Swick doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Swick is controlling Puhakka's posture. Swick on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Swick tries to get out of the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Puhakka shoots in for a takedown but Swick shows good takedown defense. Swick fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Puhakka lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Swick sprawling to the canvas. Puhakka follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Swick hang on?
Swick is rocked! Puhakka lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Swick quite badly. Swick pulls Puhakka in close trying to recover. Puhakka postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Swick on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Swick doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sam Puhakka!
