And in the blue corner, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 18 wins and 21 losses; Boris Balkan!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and Gregory Folan.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Balkan is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kersikov's half guard.

Balkan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kersikov is trying to maintain the position but Balkan is very close to passing his half guard.
Kersikov is refusing to be controlled, as Balkan sits in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've been hearing good reports from Kersikov's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

My spies in Gronk Apes inform me that Balkan has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Balkan is trying to control but can't.
Kersikov wants to take a breather but Balkan is having none of it.

Balkan wants to sweep but no luck.
Kersikov controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Kersikov wants to control from the top but Balkan keeps moving.

Kersikov is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Balkan is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Balkan controls Kersikov momentarily but Kersikov frees himself.

Balkan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kersikov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kersikov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Balkan wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Kersikov is now in half guard.

Kersikov prevents Balkan from improving his position.
Well, if Kersikov is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
