This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 96 wins and 46 losses; Matvey Pavlov! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 33 wins and 18 losses; Michael Cruz! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Emerson Jorge and Thiago Cunha.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Cruz gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Cruz turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Pavlov (0) vs (4) Cruz Pavlov is being controlled here. Pavlov tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Cruz presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Score +2 for reaching mount: Pavlov (0) vs (6) Cruz The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pavlov tries to lock up and control but Cruz gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Pavlov is looking to improve his position but Cruz isn't that keen on the idea. Pavlov is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Pavlov tries to get back to half guard but can't. Pavlov wants to control but Cruz is having none of it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pavlov sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. We've been hearing good reports from Pavlov's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Pavlov is controlling the pace.
