PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Donovan Lang (ranked 6188 p4p, 4068 weight class) and Leef Ung (ranked 535 p4p, 449 weight class). Leef Ung told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Leef Ung!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Anni Minnemäki and Marco Blurström.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ung throws a shot from downtown. Lang moves away and avoids it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ung.
Lang punishes Ung's body with a nice straight punch.
Decent striking displayed by Lang there.
Lang throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Lang throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ung.
Lang misses with a jab, cross combination.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ung shoots in looking for a takedown. Lang tries to sprawl out of it but Ung keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Lang manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Ung changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lang tries to avoid it but Ung manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lang to the ground. Lang escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

and Lang counters with a series of strikes. Ung will be more careful next time no doubt.

That has opened up Leef Ung's cut even more.
Lang leaves Ung with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Donovan Lang is winning the standup battle so far.
Lang will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
And Ung tries to counter it with a takedown but Lang pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Ung darts in and clinches Lang up against the cage.
Lang looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Lang is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lang wants to get up but he can't break Ung's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Ung manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Lang manages to get himself to full guard.

Ung looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Lang with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Ung working over Lang with some ground and pound. Lang looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Ung seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lang, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
