This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 1 losses; Cody Harris! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paul Aken and Wagner Zegers.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Harris fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Altuve shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Harris as he avoids it easily. Harris feints the counter takedown. Altuve tries to sprawl but Harris drives through with a takedown into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Altuve (0) vs (2) Harris Harris prevents Altuve from improving his position. Altuve manages to get to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Harris trying to control but Altuve is working from the bottom. Harris looks winded! Altuve is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Altuve wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Harris, who protects the arm well. Harris tries to hold on but Altuve pushes him away. Altuve is looking to work his way around to Harris's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position. Harris is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Harris is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Altuve is staying active. Altuve working for a submission but Harris is keeping him at bay. Altuve pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.

Altuve has a hand on Harris's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Harris takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Altuve is squirming around, avoiding Harris's attempts to control the action.

Score +3 for taking back: Altuve (10) vs (13) Harris Harris looking for the choke but no joy. You can see the frustration on Altuve's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

That's nine minutes gone in the round. Harris can't keep his opponent in guard - Altuve advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Altuve tries to pass to full mount but Harris defends it. Harris gets back to full guard.

Cody Harris decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way. |
