This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Zach Maccall! And in the blue corner, fighting out of St Petersburg, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Nate Pawn! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Ren Mimura and Shirou Masuda.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Pawn circles away from the clinch attempt.
Maccall pushes Pawn up against the cage in a clinch. Pawn is pressed up against the cage. Maccall has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Pawn down to the mat. Pawn avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Maccall fails in his attempt to clinch. Pawn tries to counter with a clinch but Maccall shakes him off and moves away. Maccall looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Maccall tries to clinch up but Pawn circles away and keeps his distance. Maccall is looking to clinch but Pawn is avoiding it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Maccall is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zach Maccall. That's going to take a lot out of him. Maccall drops down looking for an ankle pick but Pawn pulls his leg out and moves away.

Pawn has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Maccall clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Pawn doesn't have the hooks in though and Maccall manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard. Pawn keeping full guard, as Maccall tries to pass. Maccall trying to control the position from guard on top but Pawn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Pawn tries to land a sweep but no joy. Pawn working a defensive guard but Maccall passes into half guard.

Pawn is looking to reverse the position. You can see the frustration on Pawn's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Pawn is still trying to improve position. The referee asks Maccall politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Maccall prefers to stall for the moment though. Pawn tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Maccall wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Pawn is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Pawn has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at The Factory. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Maccall is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Maccall wants to take a breather but Pawn is having none of it. Pawn has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Maccall is working away from the top position though. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Pawn is staying active underneath Maccall, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Maccall trying to pass the guard but Pawn defending well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pawn looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Pawn moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Maccall looking to pass the guard. Pawn controls Maccall momentarily but Maccall frees himself. Pawn wants to sweep here but Maccall controlling him for the moment. Pawn is trying to keep Maccall in close.

That's nine minutes gone in the round. Pawn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Pawn trying to keep a closed guard but Maccall is proving a slippery customer.

Maccall seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Maccall has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Maccall wants to pass the guard but Pawn is defending well.
