Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Mercenary gets a clinch. Merali gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Mercenary.
Merali fails to pull guard.
Mercenary can't get the takedown.
Merali jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mercenary walks away with a smile on his face. Merali gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Mercenary rushes Merali and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Merali gets a trip takedown into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Merali (2) vs (0) Mercenary Merali is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mercenary is just riding it out for now. Merali eventually gives up the hold. Merali performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Merali is looking for a kimura but Mercenary is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Merali to get the leverage. Merali controlling the action here. Merali wants to take a breather but Mercenary is having none of it.

Merali is controlling the pace.
Merali trying to control from half guard but Mercenary is working away. Mercenary looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Merali wants to pass the guard but Mercenary is defending well. Merali is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Mercenary is squirming around, avoiding Merali's attempts to control the action. Merali takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Merali has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Merali goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Mercenary is on top in guard.
Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Merali (5) vs (2) Mercenary Merali has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mercenary can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Merali keeping moving, preventing Mercenary from controlling successfully. Merali has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Mercenary should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Merali has tightened it up now! Mercenary should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
