PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 24593 p4p, 24535 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wala Sapi has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 30 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 26 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Sapi closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sapi lands in his opponent's guard.

Mibangon has his feet on Sapi's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Horrible takedown attempt by Sapi or perhaps it was just good defense by Mibangon, which made it look bad.
Mibangon jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mibangon stuffs the takedown attempt from Sapi. Sapi gets slowly back to his feet.

Mibangon dives in for a single leg takedown but Sapi sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Sapi has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mibangon is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Minatay Mibangon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wala Sapi.

Mibangon lands a takedown into guard.

Sapi wriggles free and stands up.
Mibangon takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Sapi looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mibangon is fending him off so far but Sapi persists. Nope, Mibangon circles away and we're back to standing.

Mibangon throws a front kick that sends Sapi stumbling back into the cage.
Mibangon shoots in looking for a takedown. Sapi tries to sprawl out of it but Mibangon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sapi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Mibangon tries to sprawl but Sapi drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Sapi is controlling the pace.
Sapi is thwarting Mibangon's attempts to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sapi wants to take a breather but Mibangon is having none of it.
Sapi is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Mibangon preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sapi in particular looking to stall.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Wala Sapi will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Mibangon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sapi is trying to defend but Mibangon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Mibangon is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sapi wants to control but Mibangon is keeping busy.
Sapi is controlling Mibangon's trapped leg to prevent Mibangon from advancing to side control.
Minatay Mibangon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Let's hope that Sapi has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mibangon is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Sapi trying to hold on to Mibangon's head to control him but Mibangon postures up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Mibangon shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sapi's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sapi managing to control the position.
Mibangon content to stall in guard here.
Sapi thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sapi throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Mibangon landing some decent shots from guard.
Mibangon slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Mibangon trying to control the position from guard on top but Sapi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Minatay Mibangon dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Mibangon moves out of range of the body kick from Sapi.
Mibangon looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Mibangon shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sapi was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Sapi shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mibangon sprawls well. Mibangon wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sapi gets slowly back to his feet.
Mibangon is looking to counter with a body kick.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Sapi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mibangon as he jumps to the side.

Sapi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mibangon but Mibangon pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mibangon throws a quick counter kick to the body but Sapi avoids it.
Minatay Mibangon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wala Sapi.

Mibangon looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Sapi wants to get back to full guard.
Mibangon is controlling the pace.

Sapi is trying to maintain the position but Mibangon is very close to passing his half guard.
Well, if Mibangon is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mibangon fails with the takedown.
Mibangon fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sapi manages to avoid it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sapi closes the distance and clinches up with Mibangon, looking for a takedown. Sapi pushes Mibangon against the cage but Mibangon circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Minatay Mibangon showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Mibangon has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
