Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tri Nguyen (ranked 4409 p4p, 5020 weight class) and George Porter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). George Porter is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tri Nguyen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, George Porter! The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Bart Greer and Peter Branson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Porter keeps the fight on the outside. Nguyen misses with a leg kick. Nguyen throws a shot from downtown. Porter moves away and avoids it. Nguyen gets tackled into the cage by Porter. Porter maintains the clinch. Nguyen blocks a body shot from Porter. A head punch blocked on the inside by Nguyen. Nguyen tries to score a body lock takedown but Porter shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Nguyen has clasped his hands together around Porter's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Porter is looking to regain half guard here but Nguyen keeps moving and retains side control. Porter seems a little lost for a moment, as Nguyen dominates the positioning. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nguyen working the ground and pound but Porter is defending the strikes. The referee asks Nguyen politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Nguyen prefers to stall for the moment though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Porter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nguyen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Nguyen has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Porter struggling a bit here. Nguyen looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Porter is being controlled here.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Nguyen shoots for a double leg takedown but Porter sprawls well. He's pushed Nguyen's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Nguyen drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Nguyen fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Nguyen happy to just control the position for now. Porter is trying to improve his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Porter trying to remain calm as Nguyen controls from the top position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Porter can do anything to dispel that myth. Porter is looking for a sweep. Nguyen throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Porter tries to improve position but can't. Nguyen taking a breather here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Nguyen working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Porter rushes Nguyen and presses him up against the cage. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Nguyen changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Porter fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tri Nguyen. That's going to take a lot out of him. Porter misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Nguyen.
Nguyen darts in looking for a takedown but Porter gets double underhooks and turns Nguyen into the cage. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Nguyen takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Tri Nguyen dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Porter swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Nguyen wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Nguyen darts in looking for a takedown but Porter gets double underhooks and turns Nguyen into the cage. Porter doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Nguyen prevents a body shot from Porter. Nguyen blocks a body shot from Porter. Porter doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Nguyen manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Porter tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Nguyen wants to take the fight to the mat but Porter manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Porter lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nguyen blocks an uppercut.
Porter lands a shot to the body. Porter manages to break the clinch.
Nguyen moves into the clinch successfully.
Porter cracks Nguyen with a nice body shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nguyen taking a breather. Porter breaks from the clinch.
Nguyen tries to score a power double leg takedown but Porter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Nguyen somewhat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tri Nguyen. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nguyen walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Nguyen. Porter works Nguyen's body with a nice hook. Porter uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Nguyen. A countering left hand to the body from Porter misses. Nguyen takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
George Porter is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Nguyen takes a body punch but keeps moving. Porter connects with a looping right hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Porter scores with a decent looking hook. Porter throws a one two combo.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nguyen gets a takedown into half guard. Nguyen stalling. Tri Nguyen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Nguyen wants to pass to mount but Porter is defending the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Porter is trying to maintain the position but Nguyen is very close to passing his half guard. Nguyen is controlling the pace.
Porter is in trouble now - Nguyen has advanced to mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Nguyen controlling the position easily from mount. Porter tries to improve his position but instead Nguyen has taken his back! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Porter is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Nguyen's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
George Porter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round! Porter misses with the combination.
Porter fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Nguyen manages to avoid it. Nguyen tries to close the distance and clinch but Porter swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. A shot to the liver by Porter. Beautiful body shot. Porter digs a good body shot into Nguyen's ribs. George Porter seems to be getting the better of the standup. Porter jabs at Nguyen's body. Porter tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Nguyen was well out of range. Poor timing from Porter. Porter misses with a hook to the body
and Nguyen counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Nguyen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Nguyen controls from within his opponent's guard. Nguyen pushing down on Porter's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nguyen with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Porter tries to roll over but Nguyen keeps him under control. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Further stalling from Nguyen. Nguyen seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Porter for as long as he can get away with.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Porter misses with a two punch combination.
Porter throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
The fight stays on the outside here - Nguyen looks like he's thinking about clinching though. A looping hook to the body misses from Porter. Nguyen does a little dance to reset his feet. George Porter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Porter looks to throw the jab but Nguyen is out of range. Nguyen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Porter paws at him with a jab and circles away. Nguyen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Nguyen gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Porter gets caught flat footed, as Nguyen shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Nguyen passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Porter tries to get back to half guard but can't. Porter parries the strikes from Nguyen easily there. Nguyen is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Porter to escape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Nguyen is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Porter is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Nguyen controls the position.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tri Nguyen. I think Nguyen has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
