PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roger Sparr (ranked 368 p4p, 1022 weight class) and Max Radar (ranked 54 p4p, 135 weight class). Sparr comes to the cage accompanied by OH NO!. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roger Sparr! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Max Radar! The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Daniel Blasius and Paulsen Ambrosius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sparr showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Radar.
Sparr throwing a counter right hand but Radar manages to avoid it. Radar fakes the leg kick and cracks Sparr in the body. Radar swings widly with a right hand
and Sparr cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Max Radar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Radar fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Sparr ducks under a wild hook from Radar. A solid leg kick lands there for Radar.
Radar is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Sparr displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Radar throws out the jab. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Radar misses with a double jab.
Sparr appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Sparr avoids the head kick by Radar.
Radar lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Radar. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Radar scores with a nice head shot. Radar moves out of range as Sparr strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Radar throws a nice looking combination but Sparr bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Sparr misses with a straight right. Sparr shoots in for a double leg but Radar sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. A little jabbing left from Radar on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Sparr lands with a straight right. Radar didn't see that one coming. Sparr takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Radar lands a glancing blow to the side of Sparr's head. Sparr chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Radar can pounce on him.
Radar tries to clinch but Sparr is having none of it. Radar clobbers Sparr with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Sparr definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. A big right from Sparr misses. Sparr walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Sparr walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Radar throws a solid leg kick but Sparr takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Radar. Radar throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Radar swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Sparr moves out of range of the strikes. Radar lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Sparr circles away quickly and effectively. Radar throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Sparr counters with a left to the body. Radar swings for the body but Sparr moves out of range.
Radar misses with a left hand and Sparr counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. The fight stays on the outside here - Radar looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Sparr attempts a counter takedown but Radar avoids it well and moves away. Radar throws a left and a right that both miss
and Sparr counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Sparr is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Radar bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sparr's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Radar postures up in Sparr's guard and throws a big left but Sparr blocks it. Radar lands a couple of digs. Radar missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Sparr tries to land a sweep but no joy. Sparr controls Radar momentarily but Radar frees himself. Sparr wants to sweep here but Radar controlling him for the moment. Sparr not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Radar postures up in Sparr's guard and throws a big left but Sparr blocks it. Radar drops back looking for a leg! Sparr is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sparr manages to kick Radar off! Radar jumps back into Sparr's guard. Sparr looking to hit a scissor sweep but Radar is one step ahead there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Radar postures up.
Radar with a flurry of punches that miss. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sparr wants to sweep here but Radar controlling him for the moment. Sparr pulls Radar in to control the position. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Radar accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Radar preventing the sweep. Radar postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Sparr tries to land a sweep but no joy. Sparr is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Radar postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Radar drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Radar jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Radar throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sparr works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Radar chips away with some ground and pound. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Radar's corner. There ya go! There ya go! And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Max Radar dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! A nice combination there by Radar.
Radar loads up on a big right hand but Sparr slips the punch. Radar scores with the left hand. Sparr knows he should have avoided that one. Radar throws a jab but it's blocked by Sparr. Radar looks to throw the jab but Sparr is out of range. Sparr was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Radar is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Radar slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Sparr moves away from the strike by Radar. Sparr fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Radar avoids it really well and circles away. Radar has been the more effective fighter overall so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Radar throws a shot from downtown. Sparr moves away and avoids it. Radar misses with a hook. Sparr ducked under it nicely. A big left from Radar misses. Sparr drops down looking for a counter takedown but Radar sprawls and moves away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sparr takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Max Radar seems to be getting the better of the standup. Radar throws a right hand that Sparr ducks under and follows up with a left that Sparr also avoids with ease. Radar misses with the combination.
It looked like Sparr was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Radar. Radar connects with an inside leg kick. Radar looks to land a left hand but Sparr moved out of range nicely. Sparr throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Radar throws a leg kick and Sparr counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Radar actively working from the bottom here. Sparr prevents Radar from improving his position. Sparr drops an elbow to the side of Radar's head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sparr passes to side control. Sparr is chipping away with strikes.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Sparr lands a nice forearm strike. Sparr scores with punches from side control. Sparr avoids the strikes from the bottom by Radar. Sparr working the head and body with strikes. Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground! Sparr laying and praying for a moment but Radar takes advantage and regains half guard. Sparr works his foot free and advances to mount. Sparr working Radar over with strikes here. That's three minutes gone in the round. Sparr lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Sparr landing strikes from the mount and Radar is in trouble!
Radar is rocked!
It looks like Max Radar has been cut. Radar tries to reverse the position but Sparr maintains control. Radar is still in real trouble! Can Sparr finish him? Sparr lands a nice shot to the head. Sparr lands a heavy shot. That's hurt Radar! Sparr sees the opportunity and turns up the heat - strike after strike land to the defenseless Radar and the ref dives in to save him! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Roger Sparr! During a confident post fight interview, Roger Sparr thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
