PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gakus Amiga (ranked 24647 p4p, 24628 weight class) and Helen Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 32 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gakus Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 29 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Helen Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Salvacion fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Amiga tries to sprawl but Salvacion drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Amiga stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Amiga wants it to stay on the feet.
And Amiga counters with a quick kick to the body but Salvacion blocks it.

Salvacion can't do much from the bottom here.
Amiga misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Amiga wants to lay and pray for a moment but Salvacion keeps working.
Salvacion tries to bench press Amiga off him but Amiga keeps the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Amiga looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Salvacion is fending him off so far but Amiga persists. Nope, Salvacion circles away and we're back to standing.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Salvacion enables Amiga to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Salvacion manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Amiga shoots in but Salvacion avoids the takedown attempt easily.

And Salvacion tries to counter it with a takedown but Amiga pushes his down on his head and steps out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gakus Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Salvacion shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Amiga makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Salvacion really felt that one!
Salvacion changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Amiga tries to avoid it but Salvacion manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Amiga to the ground. Amiga escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Amiga appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Amiga shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Salvacion pinned against the cage. Salvacion gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Salvacion will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Salvacion throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Amiga's waist but Amiga gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Salvacion off to one side.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Gakus Amiga.
Well Amiga has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
