PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Balthazar Carmen (ranked 25258 p4p, 6312 weight class) and Tom DeBlass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Balthazar Carmen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tom DeBlass!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Dirk Anderson and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carmen moves to clinch but DeBlass breaks away

so DeBlass counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
DeBlass is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
DeBlass's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
DeBlass looking to pass the guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
DeBlass is stalling in the full guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
DeBlass looking to pass the guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

DeBlass shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
DeBlass pushing down on Carmen's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
DeBlass is looking to advance position but Carmen won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

DeBlass looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

DeBlass wants to work for an arm triangle but Carmen is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

DeBlass is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Carmen has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
DeBlass not doing much here.
DeBlass looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
DeBlass wants to pass the guard but Carmen is defending well.
DeBlass is controlling the pace.

DeBlass is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Carmen doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time DeBlass.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
DeBlass wants to free his trapped foot but Carmen is holding on for dear life with his legs.
DeBlass with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
It looks like DeBlass might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tom DeBlass dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Carmen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but DeBlass paws at him with a jab and circles away.
DeBlass tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

DeBlass feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
DeBlass passes Carmen's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
DeBlass works his way into side control.

DeBlass working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The referee asks DeBlass politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. DeBlass prefers to stall for the moment though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

DeBlass thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

DeBlass is trying to get an arm triangle but Carmen is defending well.

Carmen prevents DeBlass from improving position.

DeBlass tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Tom DeBlass has got the better of the ground game so far.

DeBlass is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Carmen knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

DeBlass has hold of Carmen's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Carmen seems comfortable defending it but DeBlass has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Carmen is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Carmen is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but DeBlass couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Tom DeBlass!
