The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Island throws a hook to the side of Meril's head but Meril sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Meril looks to land a combination but Island avoids it well.
James Island seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Island lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Island throws a hook but Meril avoids it easily.
Meril lands a two punch combo.
A left and a right from Island both land. Nice combination.
Meril moves away from the strike by Island.
Meril throws a shot to the body.

Island misses with a jab, cross combination.

Island looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

A quick step to the side and Meril tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Island with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Meril to score with a decent uppercut.

Island throws the left hand but Meril avoids the punch easily.

Island thows a left - swing and a miss!

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

It looked like Meril wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Meril defending well as Island loads up on a big left hand.
Island has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Meril finds it's way round the side to connect with Island's head.
Meril misses with a lunging right hand
and Island counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but James Island will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Island misses with an uppercut
and Meril counters with a series of strikes that really hurt Island! The ref looks into his eyes and sees nobody home - he's called the fight! This one is all over!
