PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Andre Driver (ranked 2936 p4p, 5979 weight class) and Tony Wyatt (ranked 169 p4p, 278 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Andre Driver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tony Wyatt!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Santiago Holmes and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wyatt darts in and clinches Driver up against the cage.
Wyatt tries to pull guard but Driver holds him up against the cage and eventually Wyatt drops back down to his feet.
Driver working some nice short punches in the clinch.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Wyatt has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Wyatt gets control of Driver's arms and successfully pulls guard. Wyatt will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Wyatt is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Wyatt escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Driver gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Wyatt working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Driver doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Driver manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Driver wants to stand but Wyatt has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Driver got a little sloppy there for a moment and Wyatt has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Driver has managed to get both his arms back between Wyatt's legs - danger averted.

Wyatt gets back to half guard.

Driver seems to be looking for submissions.
Wyatt tries to roll over but Driver keeps him under control.

Wyatt makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Wyatt.

Wyatt escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Driver gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Driver has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Wyatt is proving hard to escape from.

Wyatt had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Driver defends it easily.
Driver really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Wyatt is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Driver pushes down on Wyatt's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Wyatt moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Driver wants to get back to his feet.

Driver is thwarting Wyatt's attempts to control the position.
Driver is stalling here. Wyatt is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Driver seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Wyatt has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Driver is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Driver's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Wyatt wants to lay and pray for a moment but Driver keeps working.

Driver is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Driver is not content to let Wyatt control the position.
Driver tries to buck Wyatt off but Wyatt is having none of it.
Wyatt trying to control the position but Driver is working away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Driver can't do much from the bottom here.
Driver is looking to reverse the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tony Wyatt will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Driver scores with a decent looking hook.
Wyatt tries to close the distance and clinch but Driver swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Driver swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Wyatt is trying to pull guard but Driver has him pressed against the cage.
Driver scores with a shoulder strike.
Wyatt tries to pull guard but Driver holds him up against the cage and eventually Wyatt drops back down to his feet.

Driver avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Driver works over Wyatt with some ground and pound from guard.

Tony Wyatt has got the better of the ground game so far.

Driver drops back looking for a leg! Wyatt is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Wyatt manages to kick Driver off! Driver jumps back into Wyatt's guard.

Driver is in close to Wyatt's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Driver is pushing down on Wyatt's leg trying to pass to half guard. Wyatt is fighting to maintain full guard but Driver has managed to sneak the leg through.
Wyatt is looking for a sweep. Driver is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Wyatt manages to get to full guard.
Driver throws a big elbow that misses.

Driver passes Wyatt's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Wyatt looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Driver is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Wyatt doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Driver.

Driver stands and throws Wyatt's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Wyatt tries to bench press Driver off him but Driver keeps the position.

Driver wants to control but Wyatt is keeping him busy.

Driver is trying to get an arm triangle but Wyatt is defending well.
Wyatt is looking to regain half guard here but Driver keeps moving and retains side control.

Wyatt gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Wyatt is staying active underneath Driver, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Driver is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Wyatt can do to turn this around?

That's time! Driver's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Wyatt fails with an attempt to clinch.
Driver throws a big counter combination but Wyatt scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Driver cracks Wyatt with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Wyatt clinches up against the cage.
Driver throws a punch but it's blocked by Wyatt.
Wyatt tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Driver just stands there and leans against the cage.
Wyatt tries to pull guard but Driver won't allow it.
Driver misses with the head strike.
Wyatt fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Andre Driver has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tony Wyatt.
Wyatt tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Driver just stands there and leans against the cage.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Driver.
Wyatt tries to pull guard but Driver forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
A left hand lands to the body for Driver.
Wyatt fails to pull guard.

Wyatt ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Wyatt no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Driver slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Driver has hold of Wyatt's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Wyatt seems comfortable defending it but Driver has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Wyatt is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Wyatt is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Driver couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Our winner, Andre Driver, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
