PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Willy Payne (ranked 3146 p4p, 1832 weight class) and Howard Webb (ranked 385 p4p, 250 weight class). Payne comes to the cage accompanied by Willy Wonka - Oompa Loompa. Webb comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Where the Streets Have No Name - U2 kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Payne takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Payne shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Webb counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Webb scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Webb slaps away a takedown attempt from Payne, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Webb connects with a body shot that sends Payne's belly button to the back.
Webb looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Payne tries for a takedown but Webb circles away easily
and Webb counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Willy Payne. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Payne changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Webb tries to avoid it but Payne manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Webb to the ground. Webb escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Webb ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Webb scores with a sloppy right hand. Payne should have avoided that one.
Webb jabs at Payne's body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Webb leaves Payne with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Payne misses with a takedown attempt - Webb sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Payne is breathing heavily.
Payne has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Payne there as he acknowledges the shot.
Willy Payne seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Webb fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Payne looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Webb comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Webb is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Payne rather than just go for the knockout.
Webb connects with a crisp jab.
Webb lands with an uppercut that bounces Payne off the cage and back into range.
Payne fails with a takedown attempt.
Webb fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Payne takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Webb throws a shot to the body.
Webb getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Payne walks into a stiff left hand from Webb.

It looks like Willy Payne has been cut.
Good standup being displayed there by Webb as he connects with a hook.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Webb bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Payne! He dives into his guard looking to finish!

Payne is rocked!
Payne seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Webb stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Oh Payne is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Webb is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Webb lands a right hook to the body.
Payne seems to have got his legs back now.
Webb is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Payne had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush.
Webb lands with a nice body punch.
Webb slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Payne doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Payne takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Webb has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Webb works the jab nicely.

Webb lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Oh Payne is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Payne closes the distance and clinches up with Webb, looking for a takedown. Payne pushes Webb against the cage but Webb circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Payne takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Payne takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Payne seems to have got his legs back now.
Webb lands with a good body shot.
Webb throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Webb darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Nice uppercut there from Webb.
Webb cracks Payne on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Payne falls backwards against the cage. Webb follows up with more strikes that drop Payne to his knees. Webb keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Payne! This one is all over!
