PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 24591 p4p, 24533 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 30 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 27 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Mibangon avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Mibangon quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Mibangon shoots and misses
and Sapi counters with a good, hard body kick but Mibangon shrugs it off.
Sapi fails with the takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mibangon fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sapi avoids it really well and circles away.

Sapi gets the takedown into side control.
Mibangon is trying to escape the position but Sapi is controlling the position.
Sapi's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mibangon wants to control but Sapi postures up.
Sapi throws an elbow but Mibangon slips to the side and avoids it well.
Mibangon struggling a bit here.
Mibangon manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Sapi is looking to control Mibangon's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sapi avoid being mounted?

Sapi wants to improve his position but Mibangon is controlling well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Mibangon closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sapi to the mat! Sapi manages to get full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mibangon controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Mibangon working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Minatay Mibangon will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Mibangon gets caught flat footed, as Sapi shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Sapi controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mibangon looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Sapi engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Mibangon is trying to keep Sapi in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Sapi being controlled here momentarily.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Sapi changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mibangon looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Sapi staying calm.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mibangon wants to control but Sapi postures up.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Wala Sapi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Sapi looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Nice takedown defense from Mibangon. No joy for Sapi on that attempt.

Mibangon closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sapi did well to prevent Mibangon getting side control.

Sapi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mibangon controlling the action here.

Mibangon is trying to control. Sapi wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Mibangon is taking a breather. Sapi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Sapi wants to control the action here but instead Mibangon manages to pass to full mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sapi holds of for dear life.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mibangon looking to control and managing it successfully.
Sapi can't escape the position.
Mibangon controlling the pace for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Mibangon blocks Sapi's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
Minatay Mibangon showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Mibangon has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
