Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bob Babcock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Benoit!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Babcock moves in looking to clinch but Benoit pushes him off.
A little jabbing left from Benoit on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Benoit throws a shot from downtown. Babcock moves away and avoids it.
Some wild striking there from Benoit.
Babcock pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Benoit misses the jab.
Babcock drops down looking for a counter takedown but Benoit sprawls and moves away.
Babcock avoids the body shot from Benoit.
Babcock tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Babcock looks to throw the jab but Benoit is out of range.
Babcock misses with a kick to the body.
A thudding body kick lands there by Babcock!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Benoit is defended easily by Babcock.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Benoit has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Babcock swings away with a body shot that misses

and Benoit counters with a single leg into guard. Babcock didn't expect that.
Benoit tries to free his leg and advance position but Babcock is retaining full guard.
Babcock is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We've been hearing good reports from Babcock's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Benoit stands and throws Babcock's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Babcock can't do much from the bottom here.
Babcock takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Benoit trying to control the position but Babcock is working away.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Benoit trying to control but Babcock is having none of it.

Benoit has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Benoit looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Benoit controlling the pace for now.

Benoit takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Babcock is desperately trying to improve his position but Benoit has a good base and remains in mount.

Benoit scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Babcock?

Oooooh, big shot lands for Benoit! Babcock is hurt baaadly! Benoit is firing away with more strikes - Babcock is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!
