Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Richard James!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jack Ryan!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Jeff Smith and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James stalks Ryan and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Ryan's face. Ryan staggers backwards, shaken.
We've been told by James's head coaches at Shinobi Martial Arts & Ninjutsu that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

James fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Ryan to the ground. James is now in Ryan's guard.
Ryan has control of James's left arm, preventing James from doing any damage.
James stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ryan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
James throwing strikes from guard but Ryan blocks nicely.
James wants to control from the top but Ryan keeps moving.
James trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
James slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
James takes a little break here. Ryan wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ryan managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by James.

James is trying to get an arm triangle but Ryan is defending well.
James controls the position.
James tries to move into full mount but can't pass Ryan's legs.

James tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The strikes coming from James are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ryan is looking to reverse the position.
James misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

James is trying to get an arm triangle but Ryan is defending well.
Ryan defending against the ground and pound.

James tries for a kimura but Ryan is defending well.
James happy to just control the position for now.
Ryan avoids any damage from the ground and pound of James.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ryan dodges the ground and pound from James.
James tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Ryan looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
The strikes coming from James are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

James is trying to get an arm triangle but Ryan is defending well.

James thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

James has an Americana. Ryan didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! James is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if James hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Richard James!

After winning the bout, Richard James thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
