The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Giel looks to land a combination but Kongo avoids it well.
Giel misses with a hook.
Kongo lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
It looks like Paul Giel has been cut.
Some wild striking there from Giel.
Kongo connects with a vicious head kick that knocks Giel to the floor! Kongo dives in looking for the finish!
Giel is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Giel wants to get back to his feet.
Kongo decides to stand and escape the position.
Kongo dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Giel. That did some damage!
Giel is breathing heavily.
Giel blocks a head kick by Kongo.
Giel throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kongo.
A chopping leg kick lands by Kongo.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Kongo connects with a solid leg kick.
Kongo throws a head kick that lands with a deafening thwack! The crowd roars as Giel stumbles backwards and falls to the mat. Kongo follows into mount!
Paul Giel's cut is getting worse.
Kongo stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Kongo! Giel is out on his feet! Kongo rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Giel is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Giel is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cheick Kongo!
