Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Derrick Gawain (ranked 3502 p4p, 5696 weight class) and Vic Fontaine (ranked 423 p4p, 560 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Derrick Gawain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vic Fontaine!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fontaine stuffs the takedown.

Gawain shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Gawain wants to control from the top but Fontaine keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fontaine is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gawain defends well.
Fontaine keeping moving, preventing Gawain from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gawain trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gawain is stalling in the full guard.

Fontaine looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Gawain slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Fontaine is looking for a sweep.

Gawain wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Fontaine, who protects the arm well.

Gawain goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Fontaine rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Gawain's guard! Nice work there by Fontaine!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Gawain isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Fontaine stacks Gawain on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Fontaine!
Gawain gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Gawain tries to hold on but Fontaine postures up.

Fontaine has control of Gawain's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Gawain regains control of the situation pretty easily.
We've been hearing good reports from Gawain's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Gawain sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gawain is in trouble now - Fontaine has advanced to mount!
Gawain is working to get back to half guard.
Gawain tries to hold on but Fontaine postures up.

Fontaine goes for an armbar but Gawain turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Gawain.
Gawain trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gawain working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Gawain wants to pass the guard but Fontaine is keeping the position.
Gawain passes Fontaine's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Fontaine felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Gawain is looking to take a break and control but Fontaine is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Fontaine moves into full guard.
Gawain wants to control from the top but Fontaine keeps moving.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Fontaine looking for a guillotine here but Gawain defends easily.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Vic Fontaine will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Gawain fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Fontaine to the ground. Gawain is now in Fontaine's guard.

Gawain thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Gawain advances to half guard.

Gawain is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Fontaine sees it coming and defends easily.

Gawain is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fontaine is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Gawain jumps into side control!

Gawain has hold of Fontaine's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Fontaine tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Gawain cranks the arm and Fontaine screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Fontaine, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Derrick Gawain!
Derrick Gawain decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
