TWGC 39 (170lbs, D2): Finals - Round 3 PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 0 losses; Middle Finger! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 30 wins and 6 losses; Gino Gambini! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Lou da Vinci and Franklyn Lucas.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Gambini tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Finger defends well and Gambini ends up having to push Finger into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Gambini shoots in but no luck this time. Finger moves into range and clinches up with Gambini. Finger jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Gambini walks away with a smile on his face. Finger gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Gambini shoots in but no luck this time. Middle Finger has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gino Gambini. Nice takedown defense from Finger. No joy for Gambini on that attempt. Finger closes the distance and clinches. Finger jumps into guard, dragging Gambini to the mat.
Gambini stays in close to Finger's body and controls the position. Gambini's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Gambini stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Finger swivels though and keeps the full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gambini is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Gambini is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Finger keeping full guard, as Gambini tries to pass. Finger looking for a sweep. Not yet Finger, not yet. Finger being controlled here, momentarily. Gambini stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Finger swivels though and keeps the full guard. Finger might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Gambini slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gambini works a leg free and moves into half guard. Gambini slows the pace down in half guard. Finger keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Gambini takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. It looks like Gambini might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Finger trying to hold on to Gambini's head to control him but Gambini postures up.

Finger is holding on for now. Finger tries to get to full guard but Gambini has control of the leg. Gambini not doing much here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gambini tries to pass the half guard into mount. Finger knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Finger is looking to improve his position.
Gambini stalling. Gambini is pressing down on Finger's thigh, looking to free his foot. Finger is holding on for now.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Gambini content to control rather than advance.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Gambini wants to advance to full mount but Finger doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Gambini seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Gambini looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Gambini is continuing to stall. Finger looking to control.
Gambini engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Finger pulls Gambini in close to prevent any damage. Finger can't keep his opponent in guard - Gambini advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Finger wants to get back to full guard. Gambini not doing much here.
The adventures of Gambini the control monster continue. Boring. Let's hope that Gambini has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Gambini wants to free his trapped foot but Finger is holding on for dear life with his legs. Gambini wants to control but Finger is keeping him busy. Finger trying to control but Gambini postures up.
Finger keeping control of the position. Gambini seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Gambini looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Finger preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Gambini controlling the pace. We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Gambini.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Gambini tries to pass the half guard into mount. Finger knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Gambini controlling the action here. Finger is looking to improve his position.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Gambini is figuring out what he wants to do next. Finger is looking to control Gambini's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Finger avoid being mounted? Gambini prevents Finger from improving his position. Gambini with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Gambini looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Still in half guard, Gambini seems content to control. Finger wants to improve his position but Gambini is controlling well.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Gambini controlling the action here. Gambini trying to mount his opponent but Finger defends it. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that's the end of the fight! As we have tied on points and both fighters attempted the same number of subs, we will decide the bout based on the toss of a coin! Finger is heads and Gambini is tails. The coin is in the air and it lands... tails! Gambini wins on points by 1 to 0. Gino Gambini is the new welterweight champion! Jumping up and down and very excited, Gino Gambini waved his t-shirt featuring Silverback Sweatshop's logo in front of the cameras. The defeated Middle Finger had this to say: 'I blame my Sponsors for this loss, fuck em!'. |
