PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Wala Sapi (ranked 24514 p4p, 24638 weight class) and Yawa Kiang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Yawa Kiang enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 27 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 31 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Kiang has a takedown stuffed.
Sapi leaves Kiang with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sapi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kiang keeping full guard, as Sapi tries to pass.
Sapi is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kiang is pulling down on Sapi's head to control his posture.
Kiang wants to control the position but Sapi says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kiang holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

and Kiang counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sapi won't be happy with that.

A lull in the action here as Kiang stalls from top position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
You can see the frustration on Sapi's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Kiang slows the pace down.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Yawa Kiang will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Kiang fails to land the takedown.

Kiang changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sapi looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kiang controls the position.

Sapi has one of Kiang's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Sapi is trying to improve his position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sapi gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Horrible takedown attempt by Sapi or perhaps it was just good defense by Kiang, which made it look bad.
Kiang steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

Sapi scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Kiang is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Kiang is trying to maintain the position but Sapi is very close to passing his half guard.

Yawa Kiang showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

and Sapi counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Sapi controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kiang pulls Sapi in to control the position.
Sapi has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kiang is proving hard to escape from.
Sapi's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Kiang is pulling down on Sapi's head. It's preventing any offense from Sapi, at least for the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Sapi shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kiang manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Sapi is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Yawa Kiang is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Sapi is fighting to break Kiang's control of his arms but Kiang is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wala Sapi showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kiang has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
