The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leilua scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Leilua ducks under a wild hook from Petrov.
Leilua throws a hook but Petrov avoids it easily.
Petrov moves out of range of the strikes.
Petrov missing with a left hand there. Leilua was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Leilua steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Petrov.

Leilua looks to throw the jab but Petrov is out of range.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Leilua.

Kai Leilua seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Leilua tries to close the distance and clinch up but Petrov swats him away and circles back towards the center.

It looks like Kai Leilua has been cut.
Petrov has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Leilua.
Leilua bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Petrov gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Leilua moves into the clinch successfully.

Petrov is looking to break free of the clinch but Leilua has double underhooks.

Leilua swings wildly with an uppercut but Petrov uses good head movement to avoid it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Leilua tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Petrov's elbow.

Leilua swings wildly with an uppercut but Petrov uses good head movement to avoid it.

Petrov is trying to break free.
Leilua throws a punch but it's blocked by Petrov.

Petrov breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Leilua throws a body kick that misses
and Petrov connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Petrov fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Leilua looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Leilua pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Petrov was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Leilua sizes up Petrov with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
We've been told by Petrov's head coaches at GWad's Playpen that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Leilua takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Petrov just misses with a punch to the body.
Leilua avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Leilua is looking to clinch.
Petrov was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Leilua jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Petrov throws a shot from downtown. Leilua moves away and avoids it.
Leilua's coach down at Combat Wombat Burrow was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Leilua's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Leilua closes the distance looking to clinch
and Petrov counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Leilua throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Leilua is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Petrov had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush.
Petrov throws a jab but it's blocked by Leilua.
Petrov misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Leilua.
Petrov throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Leilua on the side of the head.

Leilua pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

It looked like Petrov wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Petrov takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

and Petrov counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Leilua's jab looks to have found its range, popping Petrov under the eye.

and Petrov counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Petrov slips a straight right by Leilua.
Petrov moves out of range of the body kick from Leilua.
Leilua lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Leilua moves to clinch but Petrov breaks away
enabling Petrov to counter with a crisp jab.

Leilua is rocked!
Petrov is stalking Leilua. Leilua circles to his left. Keeps circling left. Bam! Straight right from Petrov, and it's lights out! Leilua really payed the price for that rookie mistake.
